The clothing you wear can be a form of expression, self-care, and even a tool for personal transformation. By the time you slip on a new piece of clothing, however, it already has a story of its own. The fibers were manufactured and dyed, human hands crafted various elements, and it may have traveled across the world before finding you.
But are you familiar with the details of that story? Can you trace the route of a garment’s creation? Were the hands that crafted it imbued with joy?
These are the questions we asked ourselves when we started matty m, and it’s why we’re intentional about every aspect of our garments. We don’t want mysteries regarding material origins, how they’re made, what their environmental impact looks like, or if those who made them were treated fairly.

How, Where, and Under What Conditions Are Garments Crafted?
While the adrenaline rush of fast fashion transactions is undeniable, it also has a detrimental environmental impact, it can require the use of harmful chemicals, and the people who craft them are often subject to unethical working conditions.
Slow fashion, on the other hand, is the creation of ethically crafted garments using intentional materials and with sustainability in mind. To achieve that, we partner with factories that are compliant with the Higg Index.
The Higg Index, developed in partnership with the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, is designed to measure the environmental and social impact of how, where, and under what conditions products are made. This allows us and our partners to develop an in-depth understanding of our impact so we can quickly take corrective action if necessary.
Supply Chain Safety and Social Responsibility
Along with Higg Index compliance, we want to ensure the physical journey of our garments is optimized for quality, safety, and environmental impact. While efficiency is desirable, we choose to forgo supply chain speed when it puts our garment quality and social responsibilities at risk.
Products with the Bureau Veritas Quality Check (BVQC) have been certified by an independent inspection for safety and quality. That means their supply chain has complied with chemical regulations, has been tested against stringent safety standards, and has undergone environmental audits and wastewater testing.

Maybe this seems obvious, but the clothing you wear every day touches your skin. Its texture, color, and fit are a part of your daily existence, and we think that’s incredibly intimate. That’s why we choose to honor the hands that craft these garments through fair and ethical working conditions.
We partner with WRAP certified facilities because we want to promote a fashion industry that is safe, lawful, and humane. The principles informing their comprehensive audit and certificate program include the prohibition of forced labor, prohibition of child labor, compensation and benefits, health and safety, and more.
